UK–India FTA Support
Turn trade opportunities into a financial plan
Assess the potential effect on pricing, landed costs, margins and working capital. Build scenarios around your actual products or services, payment terms, volumes and operating arrangements.
Understand what needs checking
For goods, the financial model may depend on product classification, origin requirements, applicable tariff schedules and the evidence supporting a claim. For services, market-access commitments and the way the service is delivered need separate assessment.
SMARTAX can coordinate accounting and financial analysis with the customs, trade or legal input your situation requires.
Keep the different frameworks clear
The FTA does not make every tax or cross-border obligation disappear. Direct tax, VAT, customs, employment and social-security questions should each be reviewed under the relevant rules. The trade agreement addresses trade conditions. Direct-tax questions are assessed separately under domestic law and the UK–India double taxation convention. Social-security coordination sits under the separate Double Contributions Convention.
A practical starting point
1. Describe the transaction and the parties involved. 2. Identify the relevant trade and tax questions. 3. Agree which checks need specialist input. 4. Model the financial implications and required records. 5. Put responsibilities and review points in place.
Agreement status checked 2 October 2026: UK government guidance confirms that the agreement entered into force on 15 July 2026. Eligibility and any applicable benefit must be assessed for the specific activity. Official UK–India trade guidance.
FAQ — Does the FTA mean all trade is duty-free? Do not assume so. The relevant goods, origin conditions, schedule and claim requirements must be checked.
FAQ — Is FTA support the same as international tax advice? They overlap in business planning, but trade preferences and direct-tax obligations are different subjects. We identify what your engagement needs to cover.
FAQ — Can you submit customs declarations for us? Customs representation is not included unless expressly agreed and supported by the appropriate capability. We can discuss the information and specialist coordination your business needs.
